Basinger Heads To Siena Heights As A Two-Sport Athlete

Adrian, MI---Jordan Basinger came to Owens on a baseball scholarship. After a standout sophomore year with the Express men's basketball team, he will join Siena Heights University as a two-sport athlete.

In his two-year career as a RHP with the Express baseball team, Basinger was 5-6 with a 5.83 ERA and 37 strikeouts in 63.1 innings. On April 1 of this past season, he threw a complete game one hitter against Lakeland Community College with nine strikeouts. He came within one out of the no hitter.

It was on the basketball court where he really made his mark, however. In his one year with the Express, he made 56.4 percent of his shots while averaging 7.1 points and 5.9 rebounds to go along with 26 assists, five blocks and 30 steals in 18 games played.

After joining the team following the start of the season, he eventually worked his way into the starting lineup. He started the team's final 10 games and averaged 8.1 points, 6.4 rebounds, two assists and 1.3 steals per game.

He led the team in field goal percentage, was second in rebounds per game and fourth in points per game. With his help, the Express improved from a 10-21 finish in 2010-11 to a 24-8 finish in 2011-12. The team advanced all the way to the Region XII District 10 championship game.

"Jordan is a kid that joined us late in to the season, but made an immediate impact with his effort and his high basketball IQ," said Express men's basketball head coach Dave Clarke. "His character and his basketball ability are main reasons why successful teams can win championships."

Basinger joined the Express following a standout three-sport career at Kalida HS in Kalida, OH. A 1,000 point scorer in basketball, he was First Team All-PCL his final three seasons, PCL Player of the Year his senior year, First Team All-District 8, All-Region, and All-Ohio his final two years, and he was a member of the state runner-up team his junior year. In baseball, he was First Team All-Putnam County League his sophomore and senior seasons. In soccer, he was First Team All-PCL his junior and senior years.

Siena Heights is a member of the NAIA. Their baseball team finished 33-25 overall last season and 13-14 in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC). Their season ended with a loss in the NAIA Tournament. The men's basketball team finished 7-24 overall and 4-14 in the WHAC. Their season ended with a loss in the WHAC Tournament quarterfinals.
