Toledo, Ohio---Owens Community College had 33 student-athletes named to the 2014-15 Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) All-Academic team.

The total marks 13 more than the next closest school (Cincinnati State, 20), and it is at least the third consecutive year Owens has led the way in the conference. Its also an Owens record, topping the total of 32 from 2003-04.

A student-athlete must have accumulated a minimum 24 credit hours and a 3.3 cumulative GPA to make the team.

The Owens softball team, which won a conference championship and advanced to the national tournament for the third time in program history, led the way among the eight teams at Owens. The team had 10 of its 18 players make the team, led by Lexi Williams (Home School/Swanton, Ohio) with a 3.83 GPA. Additionally, the team achieved a 3.37 GPA combined, which is the highest among the eight sports.

The women's volleyball team, which finished 34-11 and finished third in the Region XII tournament, also had a team GPA above 3.0, coming in at 3.05. They had six student-athletes make the team, led by Aricka LaVoy (Eastwood/Pemberville, Ohio) with a 3.82 GPA.

On the men's side, the baseball team, which finished 23-25 and also finished third in the Region XII tournament, had the second most student-athletes on the team with eight, led by Casey Gose (Genoa/Genoa, Ohio) with a 3.90 GPA.

The women's soccer team, which finished 14-5-2 and advanced to the NJCAA Division I National Tournament for the second straight year, had four players make the team, led by Jessica Kreger (Bedford/Temperance, Mich.) with a 4.0 GPA.

In fact, Kreger's sister, Haley, also made the team as a softball player with a 3.63 GPA.

Five other student-athletes from three other sports also made the team. They include Dru Hein (Jasper/Jasper, Ind.) and Philippe Weppernig (Luzern, Switzerland) from the men's golf team, Pete Firlik (Catholic Central/Grand Rapids, Mich.) and Austin Somerfield (Greenville/Greenville, Mich.) from men's basketball and Mikayla Ward (Huron/Ann Arbor, Mich.) from women's basketball.

Among all schools, the Owens softball, baseball, volleyball and women's soccer teams either had the most or tied for the most student-athletes on the team in their respective sports compared to other schools in the conference. In fact, the softball team had twice as many on the team as the rest of the conference combined.

Kreger's 4.0 GPA was one of seven student-athletes with a 4.0 cumulative GPA in the conference, while 117 student-athletes made the team overall.

Notes

Owens had 28 student-athletes on last year's team, 31 in 2012-13, 24 in 2011-12 and 30 in 2010-11. In fact, the athletic department has had at least 20 student-athletes on the team every year except 2005-06 when there were 16 on the team.
