By Nicholas Huenefeld/Owens Sports Information

Toledo, Ohio---The Owens Community College men's and women's basketball programs will travel to Cleveland, Ohio tomorrow for a doubleheader against Cuyahoga Community College.

The No. 6 Express women's basketball team will take on Cuyahoga at 5 p.m. In their last game, the Express saw their 18-game winning streak snapped in a 73-67 loss to Columbus State Community College on the road. It was their first loss since Nov. 1 and it also broke their 11-game Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) winning streak.

To get back on track, the Express will look for a bounce back game from sophomore Paige Wright (Northrop/Fort Wayne, Ind.), who didn't score against Columbus State. It marked the first time she's done that this year. The guard/forward goes into tomorrow's game averaging 10.6 points per contest this year, along with a team-high 5.2 assists per game and 5.8 rebounds per game. Prior to the Columbus State game, she notched a triple-double in the team's 80-57 win over Edison Community College.

Sophomore point guard Kamilah Carter (Pioneer/Ann Arbor, Mich.) had another great game against Columbus State as she poured in 23 points, along with six assists and four rebounds. She is now averaging 19.4 points per game through the season's first 20 contests. Her 388 points puts her on the cusp of the top 30 in single season scoring leaders at Owens.

Freshman forward LaKayra Carlisle (Pershing/Detroit, Mich.) was another bright spot for the Express in the game against Columbus State. She produced her first collegiate double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. She bumped up her conference averages to 5.4 points and 8.2 rebounds per game.

The Express women are 18-2 overall and 4-1 in the OCCAC. They are a half game back of first place Cincinnati State Technical and Community College, who are 5-1.

Cuyahoga's women's team enters the game at 3-12 overall and 1-5 in OCCAC play. The Express women defeated the Challengers at home 87-51 on Jan. 15, and the Challengers are coming off a 73-70 loss at home to Sinclair Community College on Saturday.

The Express men's basketball team, on the other hand, has jumped up two spots in the NJCAA D-II poll to No. 13 today. They have six straight and 12 of 13 overall, and they sit at 18-4 overall and 5-0 in OCCAC play.

Cuyahoga enters the 7 p.m. matchup with a 5-15 overall record and a 2-4 mark in OCCAC play. However, they are coming off a 67-64 upset of No. 9 Sinclair Community College on Saturday.

Freshman guard John Murry (North Central/Indianapolis, Ind.) is fresh off winning the OCCAC player of the week award after averaging 24 points, 5.5 rebounds, three assists and 2.5 steals per game last week. He is the conference's second leading scorer at 20.4 points per game.

Murry will square off against Cuyahoga's Aaron Ashley, who comes into the game fourth in the conference in scoring at 19.3 per contest. Ashley poured in 38 points against the Express earlier in the conference season, while Murry had 19 points in that contest.

Murry's teammate, sophomore forward Bikramjit Gill (Our Ascension of the Lord/Toronto, Ontario, Canada), has been a stellar all-around player recently. After missing the team's conference opener against Cuyahoga on Jan. 15, Gill has averaged 16.2 points, 15.8 rebounds, 3.8 blocks and 1.5 steals per game in the four contests since. During that stretch, he has tied the program's single game rebounding record of 21 twice and the program's single game blocks record of eight once.

Gill is averaging 13.3 points, nine rebounds and 2.1 blocks overall this year. He is the team's second leading scorer behind Murry.

Andy Bachman (North Side/Fort Wayne, Ind.) is third on the team in scoring at 11.7 per game, while Tony Boykins (Loy Norrix/Kalamazoo, Mich.) is averaging 9.2 points and Shaakir Lindsey (Teaneck/Teaneck, N.J.) is averaging nine points per game.

Bachman (21) and Boykins (19) combined for 40 points in the team's most recent game against Columbus State on Saturday. The duo combined to shoot 13-for-25 overall and 6-for-12 from 3-point range in the game.

It was Bachman who scored a team-high 21 points in the team's last game against Cuyahoga on Jan. 15, while Boykins added 11 in that contest.
