Toledo, OH --  The Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) announced the Academic All-Conference members for the 2018 Spring Semester on Monday June 4. Owens was able to have nine members of its three athletic programs be named to the list.

Women's volleyball continued its strong academic season to partner with its historic season on the court this past fall. The Express had six players from the team achieve honors for their performance in the classroom. Erika Angstmann and Devon Heitkamp, who were named to the NJCAA Academic All-American team last week, were rewarded for their 4.0 grade point averages this past semester. Both were named to the Fall's Academic All-Conference team as well. Joining them were teammates Kennedy Ames, Carrigan Gray, Olivia Hermiller, and Cassidy Wlodarz. Wlodarz, like Angstmann and Heitkamp, was also on the Fall team as well.

Women's Basketball placed two members on the team as well. Olivia Frost, who was also named a NJCAA Academic All-American last week, achieved a 4.0 during the Spring semester. She accomplished the same feat this past fall as well. Joining her on the team was Essence Cowan. Cowan saved her best semester in the classroom for her last at Owens, as she was nominated for her first Academic All-Conference team.

Rounding things out was Julian Egbo from the Men's Basketball team. This was Egbo's second nomination as he was a member of the Academic All-Conference team this past fall.

In order to be nominated for the team, a student-athlete must achieve a 3.30 GPA or higher while completing at least 12 credit hours.  In total for the year, Owens's athletic programs received 19 nominations for the 2017-2018 academic year.
