Owens Places 16 Athletes on the Fall Academic All-Conference Team

Toledo, OH --  The Ohio Community College Athletic Conference announced, on Tuesday January 15, its selections for the Academic All-Conference Team for the Fall Semester of 2018. Owens had 16 athletes in total be placed on the team. 

In order to qualify, a student-athlete must achieve a 3.30 GPA or higher while completing at least 12 credit hours. 

The team with the most amount of members was the Owens Baseball program. The team may have just begun practicing for the upcoming spring season, but the player were hard at work in the classroom. The team had 11 players in total be named to the team. Two of the players finished the semester with a perfect 4.0 GPA. Those players were Jarrett Batanian and Joseph Everson. The other members of the team were Landon Alexander, Owen Burnett, Austin Christman, Kurt Hurley, Christian Orr, Bryce Pratt, Noah Richard, Caleb Scott, and Ben Sexton. The 11 players ties a program record for the most amount of players named to an Academic All-Conference team, which last happened in the 2015-2016 school year prior to the sport being suspended. 

The softball team also had multiple members named to the squad. Erika Berg finished with a perfect 4.0 GPA, while Monica Ray and Kirsten Zink qualified to members of the Academic All-Conference team.

The National Championship volleyball team had one member qualify in Kara Evers. Women's basketball also had one player in Liliana Velazquez qualify for Academic All-Conference honors.
