David Whitmire begins his second season as an assistant coach for the Owens Express.  He is a teacher and the assistant basketball coach at Springfield High School and he also was the head varsity baseball coach at Otsego High School for three years.  He served as the junior varsity baseball coach for Elmwood High School from 1993-95.  A graduate of Bowling Green State University with a bachelor's degree in education, he is working on a master's degree in educational administration at BGSU.  He played on the BGSU baseball team for two years.  He also is the founder and president of the Northwest Ohio Amateur Baseball League and serves as the USSSA Baseball Northwest Ohio Area Director.  His duties at Owens include coaching third base and his is the recruiting coordinator.
