Prior to Owens: Hotmer became a leader for Millbury Lake under coach Greg Wilker during his junior year when he helped lead his team to the district championship game. On the way there, he beat some quality teams with his work on the mound, and he hit a couple home runs in a tournament game to beat Lakota. He also led his team with six home runs his junior year. Overall, Hotmer was a member of the baseball, football and basketball teams at Lake. He was named Sentinel-Tribune player of the week (April 16, 2010), team MVP, Suburban Lakes League All-Academic and First Team All-SLL his senior year as a utility player, and Second Team All-SLL his junior year as a pitcher. Also, he was First Team All-Wood County in baseball and football, and he broke the school record with 15 home runs in his career. Hotmer’s greatest personal sports thrill was beating Tinora Fairview his junior year in the district semis by beating a pitcher who hadn’t lost throughout his high school career up to that point.
