Genoa, Ohio---Casey Gose (Genoa/Genoa, Ohio) went a combined 4-for-6 in today's doubleheader against Cuyahoga Community College, but the Owens Community College baseaball team dropped a pair of games, 6-1 and 1-0.

Both games were held at Genoa High School due to unplayable field conditions at Owens. Each team will play each other twice more tomorrow at 1 p.m.

Game 1: Cuyahoga 6 Owens 1

In the first game, Cuyahoga picked up three runs in the third and fourth innings off Owens starter Robbie Bekier (Cardinal Stritch/Toledo, Ohio).

Owens got its lone run of the game when Stephen Parker (Eisenhower/Shelby Township, Mich.) singled in the fifth and scored on an RBI single by Gose.

Bekier's final line included 5.2 innings, eight hits, six runs (three earned) and three walks. He struck out two before being replaced by Jake Schmeltz (Eastwood/Perrysburg, Ohio) in the sixth inning. He totaled 1.1 innings, one hit and one strikeout.

Gose led Owens with a 3-for-4, one RBI performance at the plate, while five others picked up one hit apiece.

Game 2: Cuyahoga 1 Owens 0

In the second game, Owens starter Kyle Bennett (Grove City/Grove City, Ohio) was the tough luck loser on the mound as his offense only produced one hit.

The sophomore lefty (1-4) went the distance, while allowing just six hits, one run and one walk while striking out four.

Cuyahoga plated the game's lone run in the fifth when a leadoff single eventually led to a two-out run scoring double off Bennett.

The Owens offense had several chances, but failed to cash in.

In the first, they stranded two runners in scoring position. In the fifth, the first two runners reached, but Jake Norbut (Grove City/Grove City, Ohio) was picked off second and the next two batters struck out. In the sixth, Gose was thrown out between third and home after the inning's first two runners had reached. Then, in the seventh, two runners reached, but one was picked off and the other was stranded.
