Toledo, Ohio---Grant Peters (Eastwood/Pemberville, Ohio), a right-handed pitcher for the Owens Community College baseball team, has been named the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II Pitcher of the Week.

The award marks the first time in the history of Owens baseball that a student-athlete has earned national pitcher of the week recognition.

The sophomore helped Owens post a 1-0 shutout over No. 3 Sinclair Community College this past week. He went all seven innings while allowing just three hits and two walks with 13 strikeouts.  It was the first time Sinclair had been shutout since March of 2014.

Peter, who was previously named the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) Pitcher of the Week on Monday, is now 3-1 overall with 29 strikeouts in 25 innings with a 3.96 ERA. He has allowed just four hits over his past two outings after coming within two outs of a no-hitter in his previous outing.

Owens is currently 17-9 overall and 2-2 in OCCAC play. They will be back in action this weekend with a four game set at Edison Community College on Saturday and Sunday.
