Toledo, Ohio---Jake Wichlacz (Eisenhower/Macomb, Mich.), a sophomore third baseman for the Owens Community College baseball team, has been named this week's Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) player of the week.

Wichlacz led the Express to a 5-1 week. He opened the week with a 1-for-2 performance, including a triple and two RBI, in a 10-0 win over Lourdes University JV.

However, it was in conference play where Wichlacz really made an impact. In four games against Lakeland Community College, he went 9-for-14 (.643) with four runs, one double, one home run and eight RBI.

In 12 conference games so far, Wichlacz is hitting .436 with eight runs, four doubles, two home runs and 17 RBI. He also has a .532 on base percentage and is slugging .692. He is fourth in the conference in batting average, fifth in hits and third in RBI.

Notes

Owens (26-11, 9-3 OCCAC) and Cuyahoga Community College (39-10 overall, 12-0 OCCAC) will battle for the OCCAC championship this weekend. Owens, who is hosting the series, must win all four games from Cuyahoga to clinch the league title, while Cuyahoga just needs one win.

The winner of the conference earns the No. 1 bid from Ohio for the Region XII tournament in Battle Creek, Mich. May 18-21. The three teams who don't win the conference, along with Vincennes University, will battle it out in the double-elimination Sub-Region XII tournament for the second Region XII tournament bid from Ohio. Owens is the defending Sub-Region XII champion. That tournament will be held May 13-15 at Vincennes University.
