Owens Baseball Battles Lakeland, Looks To Defend Sub-Region XII Tourney Championship

Vincennes, Ind.---The Owens Community College baseball team will look to defend its Sub-Region XII tournament championship beginning with a 10 a.m. matchup against Lakeland Community College this morning.

The tournament, which also features Sinclair Community College and Vincennes University, is double-elimination with the winner earning the conference's second bid to the Region XII tournament. Cuyahoga Community College, by way of its conference championship, already earned the first bid.

Owens (30-13) won three out of four from Lakeland (12-36) during the regular season. Following their 10 a.m. matchup, Vincennes (27-23) will take on Sinclair (43-10) in the other winner's bracket semifinal.

At approximately 4 p.m., the loser of both of those games will meet and one team will go home. Then, at 7 p.m., the winner's bracket final will take place.

The loser's bracket championship will take place at 11 a.m. tomorrow, and the championship game will take place at 2 p.m. The if necessary game would be held on Sunday at 12 p.m.

The winner of the tournament will play at 4 p.m. on May 18 in the Region XII tournament against the top seed from Michigan. The Region XII tournament runs from May 18-21 and will determine the region's lone bid to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II National Tournament.
