Toledo, Ohio---Jake Wojciechowski (Genoa/Genoa, Ohio), a freshman right-handed pitcher for the Owens Community College baseball team, will head north and join the NCAA Division II Saginaw Valley State University program next year.

Wojciechowski finished the season strong during his rookie year of college last year. In six appearances (all starts), he posted a 2.12 ERA with a 2-1 record over 29.2 innings pitched. He struck out 35 and posted two complete games. Of note, he didn't pitch until April, and he made all of his appearances in that month alone.

In Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) play, he went 2-1 over four starts with two complete games and posted a 2.49 ERA over 21.1 innings with 22 strikeouts.

Prior to Owens, Wojciechowski posted a 5-1 record with 57 strikeouts and a 1.50 ERA over 40 appearances as a senior at Genoa High School.

Wojciechowski becomes the sixth member of last year's team to sign with a four-year school. He joins Ty Suntken (NCAA Division I Bowling Green State University), Casey Gose (NCAA Division I University of Toledo), Michael Finch (NCAA Division II Wheeling Jesuit University), Eric Hotchkiss (NCAA Division III Adrian College) and Zach Bobbitt (NAIA Cincinnati Christian University).

The Owens baseball team finished 30-15 overall last year and 11-5 in OCCAC play. They finished second in conference play during the regular season and advanced to the Sub-Region XII tournament before their season ended. The college announced the suspension of the program beginning with the 2016-17 season due to fiscal reasons.

Notes

Wojciechowski becomes the third Owens student-athlete to sign with SVSU this year. He joins men's soccer student-athletes Bjion Campbell and Jahmall Whittaker.
