Owens Career: Otis "Chip" Smith is one of the best players in Owens men's basketball history. He played for Owens in 1989-90 and 1990-91 before moving on to the University of Findlay. He was an All-American at both colleges and played with his brother, David, at both schools.

In the 1989-90 season, he was named to the Express Holiday All-Tourney team. Additionally, he was First Team All-OJCAC, First Team All-Region XII and OJCAC All-Tourney team. The team's season ended on a 22-foot three-pointer at the buzzer to Oakland. 

On Jan. 27, 1990, Smith produced his third straight double-double with 10 points, 10 rebounds and 13 assists. On Feb. 3, 1990, he had 21 points, nine rebounds, nine assists and seven steals in a win over UM-Dearborn.

In 1990-91, Smith was named First Team All-OJCAC, OJCAC Player of the Year, First Team All-Region XII, Region XII Player of the Year and NJCAA First Team All-American. 

Prior to Owens: A 1985 Toledo Macomber High School graduate, he averaged 19 points and eight rebounds per game while there. Additionally, he shot 52 percent from the field and 82 percent from the foul line at Macomber. 

Personal: Otis is the son of Otis Sr. and Lorraine Smith.
