Kelly's 28 Point, 14 Rebound, 7 Steal Game Lifts Owens Past Grand Rapids

Grand Rapids, MI---James Kelly (Pioneer/Ann Arbor, Mich.) and the No. 17-ranked Owens Express men's basketball team defeated Grand Rapids Community College 81-57 Friday night to set up a showdown with No. 1-ranked Mott Community College.

Kelly led the Express with 28 points, 14 rebounds and seven steals, while Jay Marquette (Central Catholic/Rossford, Ohio) also scored in double figures with ten points, while adding four rebounds, four assists, two steals and one block. Kelly finished 14-for-19 from the field, while six of his rebounds were from the offensive end.

Five players had four assists each for the Express, while five players had at least four or more rebounds. The Express held a 47-33 advantage in rebounding, shot 33-for-67 overall from the field, 11-for-29 from three point range, and made 5 of 11 free throw attempts. Grand Rapids, who was led in scoring by Micah Gates with 12, shot 23-for-63 overall, 7-for-17 from three point range, and 4-for-7 from the foul line.

The No. 17-ranked Express (6-0) will now battle No. 1-ranked Mott Community College (3-0) in the SHAC on Monday night beginning at 7:30 p.m.
