Kelly's Third Straight Double-Double Paces Express over Kellogg

Toledo, OH---The Owens Express men's basketball team routed Kellogg Community College 91-59 in the SHAC tonight. It was the opening night of the Owens Tip Off Classic.

Justin Edmonds (Albion/Albion, Mich.) and James Kelly (Pioneer/Ann Arbor, Mich.) continued to lead the way for the Express. Edmonds poured in 17 points (all in the first half) to go along with four rebounds, four assists, two blocks and one steal. Meanwhile, Kelly produced his third straight double-double with 17 points, 10 rebounds, two blocks and one steal.

Jeremy Weemes (Springfield/Holland, Ohio) scored 11 points, while Milan Mabry (Bowsher/Toledo, Ohio) had 10 points, four rebounds and two assists.

Owens, who forced 30 Kellogg turnovers, opened up a 48-26 lead at halftime before continuing the surge in the second half. Field goal shooting for the Express was strong as they shot 35-for-70 overall from the field and 17-for-20 from the foul line. The only downfall for Owens was a 4-for-20 performance from the three point line.

Kellogg shot 21-for-50 from the field, 4-for-17 from three point range and 13-for-22 from the foul line. The Bruins were led in scoring by Steve Roper with 17, while Edward Williams had 11.

The Express are now 3-0 this season, while Kellogg falls to 0-2. Owens will take on Henry Ford Community College Saturday evening at 7 p.m. in the SHAC. The Hawks of Henry Ford (2-1) defeated Hillsborough (Fla.) Community College (0-1) in the first game of the evening 85-73.
