Toledo, OH---James Kelly and Andy Bachman led seven players in double figures as the Express men's basketball team routed Washtenaw Community College 117-47 in the SHAC tonight.
It was the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
Kelly finished with team-highs in points (21), rebounds (8) and blocks (3) in only 21 minutes of action. It was his sixth game this season of at least 20 points, while he has pulled down at least eight rebounds in 12 games.
Bachman finished with a season-high 20 points on 7-for-12 shooting overall and 4-for-5 shooting from 3-point range. He added six rebounds, two assists and two steals. It was his sixth game in double figures this year.
The Express, who got 10 first half assists from Joe Retic II, jumped out to a 76-26 lead at halftime, which was one point off a program record for most points in one half.
As a team, the Express were lights out from 3-point range as they finished 17-for-29, which broke the program's single game record for most 3-pointers in one game. The previous record was 15, which was done twice during the 1998-99 season.
Overall, the Express shot 47-for-78 from the field and 6-for-11 from the foul line. They produced a season-high 35 assists, while only turning the ball over 10 times. Additionally, they had a season-high 19 steals.
Franklin Lindsey finished third in scoring with 18 points (also a personal season-high), while adding three rebounds, two assists and a team-high four steals. He finished 6-for-10 from the field and 4-for-7 from 3-point range.
Javon Rice added a season-high 14 points, while adding three assists and three steals. He finished 5-for-7 from the field and 4-for-6 from 3-point range.
Tony Boykins was fifth in scoring with 12, while Jay Marquette and Chris Wilson each had 10 points.
Nine players had at least two assists for the Express, while Retic finished with a season and team-high 12. Markese Allen added seven assists. Those two players combined for only one turnover each, as well.
The Express held advantages in paint points (52-22), points off turnovers (33-6) and second chance points (26-10). Their bench outscored the entire Washtenaw team by 25 points as they held a 72-3 advantage in that category.
Jean-Bernard Joseph led Washtenaw with 22 points and 12 rebounds (8 offensive). He had zero turnovers. Maxime Joseph added seven points and nine rebounds, but he committed 10 turnovers.
The Express (11-6), who led by as many as 73 late in the second half, will now begin OCCAC play with a home game against Sinclair Community College on Jan. 12 at 3 p.m.
