Bussey, No. 14 Owens Roll Over Lorain County 121-76

Toledo, Ohio---Shaakir Lindsey (Teaneck/Teaneck, N.J.) had a team-high 25 points, and CJ Bussey (Central Catholic/Toledo, Ohio) added a season-high 21 as the No. 14 Owens Community College men's basketball team rolled over Lorain County Community College 121-76 in the SHAC tonight.

In the first half, Bussey produced 14 of his 21 points on 5-for-5 shooting off the bench. He was assisted by John Murry (North Central/Indianapolis, Ind.) and Justin Baker (Cathedral/Indianapolis, Ind.), who combined for 24 in the first half.

In the second half, Lindsey led the way with 19 of his 25 on 8-for-11 shooting. Pete Firlik (Catholic Central/Grand Rapids, Mich.) added 10 in the final 20 minutes.

Overall, Lindsey finished with his 25 points on 10-for-16 shooting, including a 4-for-8 finish from 3-point range. He added a team-high seven assists, as well as four rebounds. Bussey finished 8-for-11 from the field (5-for-7 from 3-point range) for 21 points. He also added a team-high five steals. Both Lindsey and Bussey came off the bench.

Murry added 21 points, six rebounds and four assists, Firlik had 15 points and Baker totaled 11 points, four steals and three assists. Murry and Dilyn Good (Springfield/Holland, Ohio) each had a team-high six rebounds, while Kenny Jones (Clay/South Bend, Ind.) blocked four shots.

As a team, Owens shot 45-for-88 from the field, including a 20-for-39 (51.3 percent) finish from 3-point range. On the other side, Lorain County finished 28-for-74 (37.8 percent) from the field and 3-for-19 (15.8 percent) from 3-point range.

Owens held a 37-16 advantage in points off turnovers and held a 60-29 advantage in bench points.

Marvin Coleman led Lorain County with 20 points. Brandon Lawler added 18 points and 10 rebounds, and Zach Barens chipped in 11 points. 

Owens is now 22-6 overall and 10-2 in Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) play. They will host Columbus State Community College at 3 p.m. on Saturday in the SHAC.

Lorain County fell to 13-15 overall and 4-10 in OCCAC play. 

Notes

With Owens reaching the century mark in scoring tonight, they extended their streak of 100 or more point games to four and have reached the total in six of the past eight games. Tonight's 121 points breaks the previous team season-high of 117, which was achieved just three games ago against Sinclair. They are averaging 114.3 points per game over the past four contests, and tonight was the 14th time this year the team has reached triple figures.

Bussey's previous season-high was 13 against Sinclair on Feb. 7. It is the sixth time he has reached double figures this year and the second time in the past four games.

With his seven assists tonight, Lindsey eclipsed 300 in his career and now sits at 304.
