No. 16 Owens Men Use FT Advantage To Push Past Northwood JV 100-71

Toledo, Ohio---Charles Penn III (Macomb Dakota/Detroit, Mich.) poured in 20 points and added 14 rebounds to lead the No. 16 Owens Community College men's basketball team to a 100-71 win over Northwood University JV in the SHAC tonight.

Penn also tied the program's single game free throw percentage record by finishing 12-for-12 from the charity stripe. Ten of his 14 rebounds came on the offensive glass.

Tonight's first half featured plenty of free throws for Owens as they went 26-for-30 in the first 20 minutes, while Northwood JV was just 0-for-1. Owens attacked the glass offensively, held a 25-14 rebounding advantage and grabbed seven offensive rebounds in the half. Overall, Owens finished 32-for-39 from the foul line.

In the first half, Owens jumped out to a 5-0 lead and led throughout. However, Northwood JV was within 10 points with four minutes left. That is until Owens closed the half on a 18-7 run highlight by eight points from Penn III.

In the second half, Owens stretched a 66-47 lead to a 30 point margin with a 14-3 run over a three minute and 28 second stretch in the first 10 minutes. Down the stretch, Owens led by as many as 32.

Owens out-rebounded Northwood 28-14 on the offensive glass and 64-41 overall.

Aside from Penn III, three others reached double figures for Owens as Tariq Scott (R.J. Reynolds/Winston Salem, N.C.) had 17 points, Ty'Rese Searles (Cornerstone/Pontiac, Mich.) had 12 points and Dilyn Good (Springfield/Holland, Ohio) had 10.

Aside from Penn III's 14 rebounds, Derrik Jamerson Jr. (Cornerstone/Pontiac, Mich.) and Andre Foster (Trotwood-Madison/Dayton, Ohio) each added 10.

Foster added a team-high five assists and three steals. Keondre Carter (Highland Park/Highland Park, Mich.) tied Foster for the team-high in steals.

Penn III led the team in blocks with four, Good added three, and Owens totaled 13 as a team.

Owens is now 3-4 overall. They will host No. 1 Schoolcraft College at 3 p.m. on Saturday in the SHAC.

Notes

Despite scoring just three points, Jamerson Jr. produced his second straight game with 10 rebounds.

Penn III and Foster each recorded season-highs in points and rebounds tonight. Penn's four blocks put him one off his season-high in that category, and Foster's assist total was a season-high.

Tonight marked the second straight game and fourth overall this year in which Owens recorded at least 100 points. They are 2-2 in those games.

Saturday's game against Schoolcraft College marks the last time Owens will play at home until Jan. 9.
