Biles Scores 32, No. 1 Schoolcraft Slices No. 16 Owens 117-83

Toledo, Ohio---Ja'Christian Biles dropped 32 points to lead the No. 1 Schoolcraft College men's basketball team past No. 16 Owens Community College 117-83 in the Student Health and Activities Center (SHAC) today.

The Ocelots finished 49-for-80 (61.3 percent) from the field, 14-for-27 (51.9 percent) from 3-point range and 5-for-7 (71.4 percent) from the foul line. Their 117 points was just one away from tying the most points ever scored against an Owens men's basketball team.

The offensive success was led by Biles, who went 12-for-17 from the field, including an 8-for-13 finish from 3-point range. He also added six rebounds and six assists as his future NCAA Division I University of Detroit Mercy head coach Ray McCallum looked on.

On the first possession of the game, Andre Foster (Trotwood-Madison/Dayton, Ohio) hit a jumper in the paint to give Owens its only lead of the game. Deshawndre Black answered with a layup. Two possessions later, Biles stole the ball and threw down a windmill dunk.

Xavier Cochran (Ann Arbor Huron/Ypsilanti, Mich.) responded for Owens with a jumper to tie the game for the second time. The game was tied a third time at 9-all following a Tony Stallworth (Chandler Park Academy/Detroit, Mich.) jumper, but Schoolcraft went on a 14-3 run and never trailed again.

Biles hit a jumper with 2:59 left to give Schoolcraft a 49-32 lead, but Owens closed the half on a 12-6 run, capped by a layup from Cochran, to pull within 11.

The visitors then opened the second half on a 10-1 run and led 65-45 with 17:36 left. Dae'Shawn Jackson (Springfield/Springfield, Ohio) hit a 3-pointer about a minute later to pull Owens within 17, but Schoolcraft scored the next five points. 

Owens pulled within 92-71 with just under eight minutes left on a Dilyn Good (Springfield/Holland, Ohio) 3-pointer, but Schoolcraft closed the game on a 25-12 run.

Aside from Biles, Schoolcraft got 16 from Davon Taylor, 13 from Black and 11 from R.J. Coil, who also led all players with 11 rebounds.

Cochran shot 6-for-8 from the field to lead Owens with 23 points. Ty'Rese Searles (Cornerstone/Pontiac, Mich.) added 13 and Jackson had 10.

Schoolcraft improved to 6-0 with the win.

Owens fell to 3-5 with the loss. They will hit the road for a 7 p.m. road game against Jackson College on Tuesday.
