Cuyahoga's Thurman Hits Game Winner In OT, Owens Falls 85-81 In OCCAC Opener

Cleveland, Ohio---The Owens Community College men's basketball team dropped an 85-81 road decision to Cuyahoga Community College in overtime tonight.

Owens held an 81-73 lead with 1:55 left following a free throw from Dilyn Good (Springfield/Holland, Ohio), but Cuyahoga closed the game on a 12-0 run.

Cuyahoga's Larenz Thurman hit the go-ahead jumper with less than a minute left in overtime.

Owens had trailed by 12 at halftime, but opened the second half on a 22-5 run. With the clock running out in regulation, Owens had the ball in a tie game. Derrik Jamerson Jr. (Cornerstone/Pontiac, Mich.) drove and kicked the ball to Ty'Rese Searles (Cornerstone/Pontiac, Mich.), who missed the potential game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Good and Searles led Owens with 16 points apiece. Jamerson added 15, and Xavier Cochran (Huron/Ann Arbor, Mich.) had 14.

Owens is now 5-9 overall and 0-1 in Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) play. They will be back in action against No. 4 Sinclair Community College at 3 p.m. on Saturday in Dayton.

Cuyahoga (8-8 overall, 1-1 OCCAC) was led by Kash Blackwell, who had 24. Thurman added 19.
