Toledo, Ohio---Charles Penn III (Macomb Dakota/Detroit, Mich.) and Brian Walker (Huron/Ypsilanti, Mich.) picked up double-doubles to lead the Owens Community College men's basketball team to a 103-78 win over Lorain County Community College in the Student Health and Activities Center (SHAC) tonight.

Owens, playing without its leading scorer Xavier Cochran (Huron/Ypsilanti, Mich.) and Andre Foster (Trotwood-Madison/Dayton, Ohio), had six players reach double figures, led by Ty'Rese Searles (Cornerstone/Pontiac, Mich.) with 19 points.

As a team, Owens had it working from inside and outside. They shot 37-for-74 (50 percent) overall, including an 11-for-31 (35.5 percent) finish from 3-point range. Furthermore, the team finished 18-for-23 (78.3 percent) from the foul line.

Lorain County, who came into the game featuring the league's No. 1 and No. 4 rebounders, outrebounded Owens 50-48, which included a 25-15 advantage on the offensive glass. The trio of Kevin Jenkins (23), Wesley Harris (20) and Ouddi Hamdan (20) also combined for 63 of the team's 78 points, while Hamdan added 10 rebounds and seven assists - both team-highs.

Over the game's first five minutes, Owens never trailed, but the score was tied three times. The third came at 14 apiece after a Hamdan layup. At that point, however, Tariq Scott (R.J. Reynolds/Winston Salem, N.C.) got a layup off an offensive rebound to spur a 12-0 run that put Owens up 26-14 with 10:07 left.

During the run, Owens received baskets from six different players - all on layups.

A little over a minute later, a pair of free throws from Scott pushed the lead to 14. After another bucket from Scott pushed the lead back to 14 a minute later, Searles scored seven straight points, which included a four point play. Then, Dilyn Good's (Springfield/Holland, Ohio) 3-pointer put Owens up 42-22.

From that point on in the first half, Owens stretched the lead. Searles closed the half with a tip in at the buzzer to give Owens a 55-29 lead.

In the second half, Lorain County turned the ball over four times in the first 2:30, which allowed Owens to score nine straight points and take a 64-29 lead with 17:25 remaining. The run was highlighted by five points from Good, including a two-handed stuff.

Lorain County responded by scoring nine of the game's next 13 points. Then, with 11:15 left, a 3-point play from Matthew Watkins pulled Lorain County within 23. Owens, however, scored eight of the game's next 10 points, including five more points from Good, to put the game away for good.

The closest Lorain County got from there was 24 points. A layup from Searles pushed Owens across the century mark with 3:26 left before Lorain County closed the game on a 10-3 run.

Aside from the 19 points from Searles, Good finished with 18 points, nine rebounds and two blocks. He finished 7-for-10 from the field, including a 4-for-5 finish at the foul line. Scott finished with 16 points and a game-high five blocks.

Roy Hatchett Jr. (Glenville/Cleveland, Ohio) had a game-high eight assists, and Dae'Shawn Jackson (Springfield/Springfield, Ohio) contributed eight points and four assists.

Lorain County, which fell to 11-13 overall and 1-8 in Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) play, was hurt by a 2-for-18 finish from 3-point range and a 14-for-23 performance at the foul line.

Owens, which improved to 13-10 overall and 5-3 in OCCAC play with the win, will be back in action Saturday at home against No. 3 Sinclair Community College (22-1, 9-1 OCCAC) at 3 p.m.
