Toledo, Ohio---Several players came through in key situations as the Owens Community College men's basketball team picked up an 88-80 victory at home over No. 6 Schoolcraft College on Wednesday.

With the victory, Owens not only avenged a 102-76 loss on the road to Schoolcraft on Nov. 16, but they also picked up their second straight upset of a top 10 ranked team following last week's 100-99 win over No. 9 Lansing Community College. They are now 5-3 overall this year and will be back in action on Saturday at home against Muskegon Community College beginning at 3 p.m.

On Wednesday, the team's anchor was Jaylen Tucker (Northland/Columbus, Ohio), who had a game-high 20 points and tied his season-high in rebounds with 15. He finished 7-for-11 from the field, while producing his third straight and sixth double-double of the season.

The game was tied or saw Owens hold a lead for all but 79 seconds. Schoolcraft was able to take the lead on three occasions with the first two coming late in the first half. The third lead came over a 39 second period in the second half when Schoolcraft led by as many as three.

Rico Stafford (Lima Senior/Lima, Ohio), who is now averaging 13.5 points over the team's past four games, opened the game with a second chance layup. Owens took a five point lead following a 3-pointer from Roy Hatchett Jr. (Glenville/Cleveland, Ohio) and a layup from Tucker, but Schoolcraft answered with four straight points.

Tucker then worked his way through the post for a two-handed slam that started a 10-0 run. He followed his slam with a pair of free throws before Stafford scored six straight points on a trio of layups to give Owens a 17-6 lead with 13:25 left in the half.

Schoolcraft chipped away at its deficit, which was eventually trimmed to one following an Armani Tinsley jumper with 8:33 left. Hatchett answered with a floating jumper in the paint, followed by a 3-pointer as the lead quickly jumped to six for Owens.

Derrik Jamerson Jr. (Cornerstone/Pontiac, Mich.), who would later provide several big shots, joined the scoring column with a pull up mid-range jumper on a fast break to push the Owens lead to eight with 5:33 left, which forced a Schoolcraft timeout.

Schoolcraft came out of the timeout and produced an 11-2 run, which gave them its first lead at 35-34 with 1:52 left following a De'Yuan Heard layup. Following that bucket, Owens missed a 3-point field goal attempt and Schoolcraft rebounded with a chance to stretch the lead, but Marquevious Wilson (Lima Senior/Lima, Ohio) grabbed a big steal and converted a layup in traffic.

Richard Talley answered on the other end to give Schoolcraft the lead, once again, for 11 seconds, but Hatchett buried another 3-pointer to give Owens a 39-37 lead at halftime.

In the first half, Hatchett produced 13 points on 5-for-5 shooting, including a 3-for-3 performance from 3-point range. Stafford added 12 points in the half, while Tucker had eight points and eight rebounds. As a team, Owens shot 17-for-33 (51.5 percent) in the half.

The second half featured efficient offensive performances as each team finished 50 percent from the field. After only going to the line three times in the first half, Owens also added 13 points from the line in the final half.

Tucker opened that second half with a layup, and Shondell Jackson (Warren Harding/Warren, Ohio) followed with a 3-pointer to push the lead to seven quickly. Shortly thereafter, Jackson made a driving layup on the right side to give Owens a 46-40 lead.

In just over two minutes, Schoolcraft answered with a 9-0 run to take a 49-46 lead. It would be their final lead, though, as Derek Reece Jr. (Springfield/Toledo, Ohio) made a free throw and a jumper sandwiched around a Ty'Rese Searles (Cornerstone/Pontiac, Mich.) 3-pointer to give Owens a two-point advantage.

Talley made a layup to knot the score at 51 apiece. Tucker followed with a 3-point play and made a pair of free throws moments later for a 56-53 lead. Schoolcraft's Delo Hansbro buried a 3-pointer to pull his team within two with 10:29 left, but Jamerson answered with a 3-pointer, and that was followed by a jumper from Jackson as Owens pushed its lead back up to seven.

A couple minutes later, Searles made a 3-pointer to start a 5-0 run that gave Owens a 69-59 lead. Two quick baskets for Schoolcraft, followed by an Owens turnover, forced a timeout from head coach Dave Clarke.

Three straight possessions came up empty out of the timeout before a jumper from Tucker gave Owens an eight point lead. Talley responded with a pair of free throws, but that's when Jamerson worked his magic from long distance.

The sophomore guard, who recently signed with NCAA Division I Norfolk State, buried three consecutive 3-pointers to give Owens another 10 point lead with 1:54 left.

Walt Kelser scored five consecutive points for Schoolcraft in the ensuing minute, but Stafford hit a layup and then found Tucker for an alley-oop dunk to make it an 11-point lead.

Schoolcraft wouldn't quit, though as they got two more free throws from Kelser and a 3-pointer from Hansbro to trail by just six. Tinsley was then called for a foul and then added a technical arguing the call, and Owens finished the game with four free throws in the final 20 seconds.

Jamerson finished 4-for-4 from 3-point range in the second half alone for a team-high 13 points in the half, while Tucker had 12 points and seven rebounds on 4-for-6 shooting. Jackson added nine points in the half.

Overall, outside of Tucker's big double-double, Hatchett added 16 points, seven assists and four steals. He finished 5-for-9 from the field, 3-for-4 from the 3-point line and 3-for-4 from the foul line. He is also now leading the nation at eight assists per contest, and his scoring total on Wednesday was a season-high.

Jamerson and Stafford each added 15 points, while Stafford (7) and Jamerson (5) also contributed in the rebounding column. Jamerson even added two blocks and two assists, while Stafford had three steals, two assists and two blocks. The duo combined for all of the team's four blocks.

Jackson added 11 points as the Owens starting five of Tucker, Jamerson, Hatchett, Jackson and Stafford finished 28-for-52 from the field. On the flip side, Schoolcraft's bench outscored Owens 56-11.

Kelser led Schoolcraft with 20 points to tie Tucker for the game-high in scoring, while Talley added 18 and Heard had 14 - all three of those players came off the bench. Hansbro led all starters with 11 points.

Schoolcraft fell to 5-2 overall with the loss, which was their first on the court loss to Owens since Nov. 8, 2014. Despite having to forfeit one of the victories, they had won four straight against Owens until Wednesday.
