Toledo, Ohio---Yavari Hall, a 6-4 guard from Warrensville Heights (OH) High School, has officially signed with the Owens Community College men's basketball program.

Hall, who averaged 17 points per contest as a senior in 2015-16, originally committed to NCAA Division I Kent State University while in high school. He ended up attending Coffeyville Community College in Kansas last year, but did not play. He retains freshman eligibility at Owens.

During that senior year at Warrensville Heights, Hall garnered Third Team All-Ohio recognition. As a junior, he averaged 17.1 points and 6.6 rebounds. He led the team in scoring as a sophomore at 13.3 per game.

A Rivals.com three-star guard at Warrensville Heights, Hall also held offers from Eastern Carolina, Miami (Ohio), Cleveland State, Bowling Green and Northern Kentucky.

"Yavari is a big-time talent," said Owens men's basketball head coach Dennis Springs. "He is long, athletic and will be able to defend multiple positions. He can score in a lot of different ways. I'm excited to see him progress throughout the season."

NOTES

Springs will be entering his first full season as the head coach of the Owens men's basketball program in 2017-18. Last year, he took over for Dave Clarke on Dec. 16 and led the team to a 16-5 record over the final 21 games. He had previously been an assistant with the program since the 2013-14 season.

The Owens men's basketball program, which finished 23-9 last year and advanced to the Region XII District 11 semifinals, has won at least 20 games in five of the past six seasons and 29 times overall in program history. Following last season, leading scorer Derrik Jamerson Jr. (Cornerstone/Pontiac, Mich.) signed with NCAA Division I Norfolk State University. He became the program's eighth NCAA Division I player over the past five seasons.

Over the past six seasons, Owens men's basketball has compiled a 141-53 (.729) record with two conference championships and one National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II Final Four appearance. Overall, the program has captured 12 conference championships, eight Region XII championships and two national championships.
