Owens Inks Two for the 19-20 Season

Toledo, OH -- With the offseason in full swing, the Owens Men's Basketball program announced the addition of two players to its roster for the 2019-2020 basketball season.

Jamal Whiteside of Perry High School and Jaylen Paschel of Clearview High School have both signed letters of intent to suit up for the Express next season.

 Jamal Whiteside, Perry High School: Whiteside helped the Commodores to a 19-4 record this past basketball season, which included a sectional championship for the team. Under the tutelage of coach Matt Tabler, Whiteside averaged 18.2 points per game and 8.8 assists per contest. He also average over four rebounds and four steals during the season. He was named First Team All Northwest Central Conference and he was also an All Northwest Ohio selection and an All District Eight member too. Whiteside, a two sport athlete, Whiteside has had success in the classroom as well. He has been on Perry's High Honor Roll and he has been on the All Year Honor Roll three times. He currently carries a 3.4 cumulative GPA. During his career with the Commodores, Whiteside has ben a district champion twice and he helped his team to a State Final Four appearance too.

Coach Bruce Johnson on Jamal Whiteside: "We are extremely fortunate to have a student athlete like Jamal here at Owens. With his ability to score, handle and pass the basketball we expect him to come in and play a significant role rather quickly. Furthermore, he has proven that not only is he a very strong basketball prospect but an even stronger student which we feel will help us continue to build our culture."

 Jaylen Paschel, Clearview High School: Paschel comes to the Express from Clearview High School in Lorain, OH. Paschell helped the Clippers to a 17-7 overall record and a sectional final appearance. He averaged 12 points per game and four rebounds a game. Under the direction of coach John Szalay, Paschel was an All PAC First Team selection. He was also an All-Ohio Honorable Mention. Paschel is also a four year varsity letter winner for both football and baseball during his time at Clearview. He was an All County defensive back during the football season and he was also a First Team All PAC selection as well.
