Gilbert Guerrero begins his fifth season as head coach of the Owens golf program.  He previously served as the team's assistant coach in 2006.

Guerrero has guided Owens to three straight OCCAC championships and four trips to the NJCAA National Championship Tournament.  He served as head varsity boys golf coach at Start High School from 1985-2005 and returned for the 2010 season.  His many accolades in golf include 15 District tournament qualifiers and three individual City League champions.  Additionally, Guerrero has served as a teaching golf professional at Detwiler Park Golf Course in Toledo since 2005 and previously held the position of head golf professional at Toledo's Ottawa Park Golf Course from 1981-85.  He also has held board-level membership with the Junior Golf Association.  

In addition to his golf experience, Guerrero has served as an assistant coach for the Express men's basketball program.  He previously served as head varsity boys basketball coach at Start High School for 10 years.  Guerrero guided Start to the City League Championship during the 1996-97 season and was honored as Co-Coach of the Year in Ohio, All-Northwest Ohio AP Coach of the Year, District 7 Coach of the Year, "Toledo Blade" Coach of the Year and City League Coach of the Year.  He also was City League Coach of the Year in 2003-04.  In 2010, he was inducted into the City League Hall of Fame for athletic achievement in basketball and golf.

 The Toledo resident is a graduate of Waite High School and earned a bachelor's degree in arts and sciences from Syracuse University and a master's degree in special education from Bowling Green State University.  Guerrero teaches special education teacher at Start High School.
