Express Ties For First In Lakeland Invitational, Takes 4th In Gettig Invitational

Kirtland, OH---The Express golf team tied Columbus State for first place in the Lakeland Invitational on Friday.

Owens and Columbus State each shot a 313, while Cincinnati State shot a 320 to finish in third.

Kyle Simmons and Luke Berger each shot a 75 to lead the Express, while Conor Totzke shot an 83, Greg Hermes shot an 85, and Darren Gessner shot an 89.

Simmons and Berger tied for second place with their 75's.

With only one invitational remaining in OCCAC play, the Express sit in second place. First place Columbus State has 23.5 points through five invitationals, while Owens has 19.5 and Cincinnati State has 17. Points are accrued as follows: 5 for a first place finish, 4 for a second place finish, and so on.

Express Takes 4th In Bill Gettig Invitational At Trine University

On Saturday, the Express finished 4th of seven in the non-league Bill Gettig Invitational at Trine University. With a team score of 309, Owens finished 15 shots off first place Trine University. Calvin College (305) and Spring Arbor University (308) finished second and third.

For Owens, Hermes shot a 74, Walter Dorosh shot a 77, Gessner shot a 78, Kyle Simmons shot an 80 and Berger shot an 81. Hermes finished in a tie for third with his 74.

The Express are now off until May 6 when they will host the Owens Invitational at Belmont Country Club. One day later, the OCCAC Championships will take place at Belmont.
