Express Golf Finishes Third in Mike Lalaeff Memorial Invite

Hammond, IN---The Express men's golf team improved their team score by 12 strokes from round one, but finished in third place after today's final round of the Mike Lalaeff Memorial Invite.

The Express finished just one shot off of second place Carthage College (621). Saint Xavier shot a two-day 601 for first place.

Harrison Long (72) led the Express in the final round, but Blaze Hogan's final round 73 gave him the low score (153) for the Express starting five. Long finished 10 strokes better than his first round score to finish with a 154.

Philippe Weppernig (78-79-157), Brandon Hoelzer (77-81-158) and Dru Hein (82-89-171) rounded out the Express five.

Individually, Kirby Manown led three Express players with an 82-74-156. He finished tied for 10th place. Timothy Dawkins (80-80-160) and Tyler Crossley (82-84-166) also represented the Express.

Hogan and Long finished in seventh and eighth place, respectively, while Weppernig finished tied for 13th and Hoelzer tied for 16th.

Kirby Brown of Saint Xavier shot a 76-71-147) to take home first place individually.

Notes

The tournament was held at Lost Marsh Golf Course in Hammond, IN. It was hosted by Purdue Calumet University. Sixteen teams participated in the event, along with 10 individuals. 

The next action for the Express is Sept. 22 in the Defiance College Fall Invitational at the Kettering Country Club in Defiance, OH. It will be a one-day event.

The Express have now participated in three fall events. They previously captured first place in the Olivet College Fall Invitational on Aug. 30-31 to open the season before having two teams place second and fourth in the John P. Spiess Memorial on Sept. 10.
