Hoelzer's 70 Helps No. 1 Express Men's Golf Capture Owens Invitational

Toledo, OH---Brandon Hoelzer led the way with a team-low 70 to give the No. 1 Express men's golf team first place in the Owens Invitational.

The Express, who shot a 287 as a team, were playing in their first tournament since being ranked No. 1 in yesterday's poll.

Also helping the Express cause were Philippe Weppernig and Harrison Long (71 each), as well as Kirby Manown and Dru Hein (75 each).

Ohio Northern University (292) finished in second place, while Oakland Community College and Cincinnati State Technical and Community College each shot a 299 for a third place tie.

Hoelzer, Brandon Lambert of Ohio Northern University and Ben Torchia of Lourdes University all went to a playoff for medalist honors. After all three players scored a par on the first hole, Lambert won medalist honors with a par on the second hole. 

The Express "B" team finished in a tie for 10th place, led by a 76 from Timothy Dawkins. Tyler Crossley (78), Neil Recker (82) and Riley Robinson (85) rounded out the "B" squad.

Notes

Par was 71. The event was held at Heather Downs Country Club in Toledo, OH.

The event had 10 schools participating, while 14 teams competed.
