Long's 3-Under 69 Leads No. 1 Owens Golf To First Place Finish In Spring Opener

Middletown, Ohio---Freshman Harrison Long (Wilnecote/Tamworth, U.K.) shot a three-under 69 to lead the No. 1 Owens Community College men's golf team to a first place finish in today's Spring Classic.

It was the regular season spring opener for the Express, while Long picked up medalist honors in his collegiate spring debut.

As a team, the nation's top ranked team shot a 305, which was four strokes better than second place Cincinnati State Technical and Community College and seven shots better than Muskegon Community College.

Aside from Long, the Express were led by Tyler Crossley's (Jonathan Alder/Plain City, Ohio) 77 and Brandon Hoelzer's (Fremont Ross/Fremont, Ohio) 79.

Timothy Dawkins (Big Rapids/Big Rapids, Mich.) added an 80, while Philippe Weppernig (Kantonsschule Alpenquai Luzern/Luzern, Switzerland), Riley Robinson (St. Mary Catholic Central/Monroe, Mich.) and Dru Hein (Jasper/Jasper, Ind.) each shot an 81. Kirby Manown (Belle Vernon/Belle Vernon, Penn.) rounded out the lineup with an 84.

The tournament, which was held at the Weatherwax Golf Course in Cincinnati, Ohio, was played in cold and wet conditions.

Dating back to the fall, the Express have now won six straight tournaments. They are scheduled to play next on April 4 in the OU-Chillicothe Invitational at 10 a.m.
