Long's Fourth Straight Medalist Finish Engineers No. 1 Owens Golf To 9th Straight Championship

Middletown, Ohio---Harrison Long (Wilnecote/Tamworth, U.K.) kept the train that is the No. 1 Owens Community College men's golf team rolling by leading the team to its ninth straight championship in the Miami-Hamilton Invitational at Hamilton Elks Golf Course today.

Long shot a 3-under 69 to capture his fourth straight individual championship. He is now 10 under par through four spring tournaments.

As a team, the Express shot a 302, which was 16 shots better than second place Cincinnati State and 20 shots better than third place OSU-Newark.

Long's teammate, Brandon Hoelzer (Fremont Ross/Fremont, Ohio), finished in second place individually with an even par 72, while Philippe Weppernig (Luzern, Switzerland) shot a 77, Kirby Manown (Belle Vernon/Belle Vernon, Penn.) shot an 84 and Dru Hein (Jasper/Jasper, Ind.) shot an 85. 

Individual golfers for the Express included Timothy Dawkins (Big Rapids/Big Rapids, Mich.) with a 78, Tyler Crossley (Jonathan Alder/Plain City, Ohio) with an 80 and Riley Robinson (St. Mary Catholic Central/Monroe, Mich.) with an 82.

The Express remain undefeated in the spring and have won nine straight tourneys dating back to the fall, including 10 total championships this year. They finished second and third in the other two they played in early in the fall.

The Express will now open conference play with back-to-back tournaments this weekend. Tomorrow, they will take part in the Cincinnati State Invitational at 1 p.m. before taking part in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) South Invitational on Sunday at 9 a.m.
