Hoelzer, Long Lead No. 1 Owens Golf To Columbus State Invitational Title

Columbus, Ohio---Brandon Hoelzer (Fremont Ross/Fremont, Ohio) and Harrison Long (Wilnecote/Tamworth, U.K.) led the No. 1 Owens Community College men's golf team to a first place finish in today's Columbus State Invitational at Bent Tree Golf Course.

The Express shot 295 as a team, which was three shots better than second place Columbus State Community College. Cincinnati State Technical and Community College finished third with a 307, Lakeland Community College was fourth with a 316 and Lorain County Community College had a 331.

Individually, Hoelzer captured medalist honors with a 70, while Long's 72 earned him a second place finish. Philippe Weppernig (Luzern, Switzerland) shot a 76, while Kirby Manown (Belle Vernon/Belle Vernon, Penn.) and Dru Hein (Jasper/Jasper, Ind.) each shot a 77. Tyler Crossley (Jonathan Alder/Plain City, Ohio) rounded out the starting lineup with an 80.

As individuals, Timothy Dawkins (Big Rapids/Big Rapids, Mich.) shot an 80 and Riley Robinson (St. Mary Catholic Central/Monroe, Mich.) shot an 83.

Today was the second straight championship for the Express, and it was their 11th in the past 12 tournaments dating back to the fall season. Today also marked Hoelzer's second straight medalist finish.

The win also puts the Express in sole possession of first place in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) standings through three tournaments. They were tied with Cincinnati State heading into today, but Cincinnati State's third place finish dropped them down.

The next action for the Express will be Sunday in the Lorain County Invitational at Elyria Country Club.
