Wauseon, Ohio---Harrison Long (Wilnecote/Tamworth, U.K.) fired a tournament record 67 (5-under) to lead the Owens Community College men's golf team to a first place finish at the Jon P. Spiess Memorial tournament today.
Along with Long's 67, freshman Dominic DiGiacomo (Ocean City/Ocean City, N.J.) fired a two-under 70 and sophomore Philippe Weppernig (Luzern, Switzerland) shot an even par 72 to lead Owens to a 286 (2-under) finish as a team, which broke the previous tournament team record by two strokes.
University of Northwestern Ohio's (UNOH) "A' team finished second with a 295, and Trine University's "A" team finished third with a 297.
In a tournament in which four teams shot below 300, Long stood out. The sophomore tied the program's 18-hole single round record in addition to his tournament record.
Aside from the team's top three finishers, Wyatt Spalding (Summerfield/Petersburg, Mich.) and Dru Hein (Jasper/Jasper, Ind.) each shot a five-over 77, while Christian Bienaime (Lake Brantley/Altamonte Springs, Fla.) shot an eight-over 80 in his first collegiate tournament. Spalding finished tied for third place, while Long, Spalding and Weppernig made the all-tournament team.
The championship makes Owens 2-for-2 in capturing first place this fall season after their season opening win in the Olivet College Fall Golf Classic recently.
Today's event was held at Iron Wood Golf Course.

Owens will take part in the Purdue Calumet University Fall Invitational Sept. 15-16 at Lost Marsh Golf Course in Hammond, Ind.
18-Hole Averages
Through three 18-hole rounds this year, Weppernig is averaging a team-low 71.6 strokes. Just behind him are Long and DiGiacomo, who are each averaging 72 strokes. Spalding (76.3) and Hein (77.3) are fourth and fifth. Today's was Bienaime's first tournament.
Through three 18-hole rounds, Owens is averaging 291.3 strokes as a team.
