Owens Golf Takes Second In Columbus State Invitational

Columbus, Ohio---The No. 5 Owens Community College men's golf team finished second in yesterday's Columbus State Invitational.

The Express finished eight strokes behind first place Cincinnati State, which captured its third straight OCCAC tournament title to open the season.

Tournament host Columbus State shot a 309, while Lakeland Community College finished fourth with a 327.

Leading Owens was Philippe Weppernig (Luzern, Switzerland), who shot a 74 and finished tied for third place. Dominic DiGiacomo (Ocean City/Ocean City, N.J.) shot a 77 for a sixth place tie, while Wyatt Spalding (Summerfield/Petersburg, Mich.) shot a 78 and Harrison Long (Wilnecote/Tamworth, U.K.) fired a 79.

Dru Hein (Jasper/Jasper, Ind.) and Christian Bienaime (Lake Brantley/Altamonte Springs, Fla.) each also competed with an 81 and 86, respectively.

Taylor Suggs of Cincinnati State shot a 69 for first place. He is also in first place overall through three conference tournaments.

Owens will be back in action Thursday in the Lourdes Invitational at Heather Downs Country Club.

Notes

Midway through the conference season, Owens is in second place in the OCCAC. They need to win the final three tournaments to at least guarantee a share of a third straight OCCAC championship.

Long and Weppernig are each tied for third place individually in the conference with a 75.33 average through three tournaments. DiGiacomo is in sixth place with a 77.33 average.
