Long, No. 6 Owens In Good Position Through Two Rounds For Third Straight Region XII Championship

Battle Creek, Mich.---Harrison Long (Wilnecote/Tamworth, U.K.) shot a 4-under 140 over two rounds today as the No. 6 Owens Community College men's golf team sits in second place with one more round to play tomorrow in the Region XII tournament at Bedford Valley Golf Club.

Long is in first place individually after shooting rounds of 72 and 68. He is four strokes ahead of Grand Rapids Community College's Zach Bialik, and he was the only player to shoot a sub-70 score in either round today.

As a team, Owens shot rounds of 299 and 298 for a total of 597, which is just one stroke behind Grand Rapids at 596. Oakland Community College is in third place with a 606. The top two teams in the nine team tournament advance to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II National Tournament in Scottsboro, Alabama May 19-22.

Aside from Long, Dominic DiGiacomo (Ocean City/Ocean City, N.J.) shot rounds of 73 and 76 for a total of 149. He is five over so far and tied for sixth place.

Philippe Weppernig (Luzern, Switzerland) shot 77-75-152 (+8) for a 15th place tie. Christian Bienaime (Lake Brantley/Altamonte Springs, Fla.) shot an 81-79-160, and Wyatt Spalding (Summerfield/Petersburg, Mich.) shot a 77-83-160. Both Bienaime and Spalding are +16 so far in the tournament and are tied for 30th place. 

Owens is the two-time defending Region XII champion. The final round of this year's tournament will take place tomorrow. For complete results, visit here
