DiGiacomo Paces Owens Golf, Team In 6th Through 1st Round At Nationals

Plymouth, Ind.---Dominic DiGiacomo (Ocean City/Ocean City, N.J.) fired a 1-under 71 during today's first round as the Owens Community College men's golf team sit in sixth place at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II National Tournament at Swan Creek Golf Course.

DiGiacomo's 71 is good for a seventh place tie. The sophomore birdied the fourth, fifth and 15th holes to pace Owens. Will Mullins (St. Bernadette's/Bristol, United Kingdom) overcame a pair of double bogeys, finished with a pair of birdies and carded a 3-over 75. He is in a tie for 37th place.

Dylan Holsclaw (Plainfield/Plainfield, Ill.), Karit Kitipongpatana (St. Dominic School/Bangkok, Thailand) and Bandit Chaisuk (Nong Khai, Thailand) rounded out the Owens lineup. Holsclaw shot a 5-over 77 and is in a tie for 49th place, while Kitipongpatana had a 7-over 79 and is tied for 75. Chaisuk shot a 12-over 84 and is tied for 104th.

Holsclaw birdied the 10th and 18th holes. Kitipongpatana birdied the 11th hole. Chaisuk birdied the fifth hole, and picked up an eagle on the 15th.

Tyler Junior College's Marco Maldanado is in first place after carding an 8-under 64.

As a team, Owens shot a 302 and are just four strokes behind Illinois Central for fifth place. South Mountain Community College out of Arizona and Tyler Junior College out of Texas are both tied for first place with a 283. Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (291) and Kirkwood Community College out of Iowa (295) are in third and fourth.
