Plymouth, Ind.---Dylan Holsclaw (Plainfield/Plainfield, Ill.) fired an even par 72 to lead the Owens Community College men's golf team to a 298 team score in today's second round of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II National Tournament at Swan Creek Resort.
With that team score, Owens remains in sixth place midway through the tournament. Among all 20 teams, they shot the fifth lowest score of the second round for an even 600 so far, which puts them 27 strokes back of co-leaders South Mountain Community College out of Arizona and Tyler Junior College out of Texas.
Holsclaw, who improved his first round score by five strokes, started today's action with a bogey. He also picked up a bogey on the seventh hole, but evened things out with birdies on the fifth and ninth holes. In fact, he shaved three strokes off his ninth hole score from yesterday as he turned a double bogey into a birdie.
Dominic DiGiacomo (Ocean City/Ocean City, N.J.), who led Owens with a 1-under 71 yesterday, shot a 2-over 74 this afternoon. Through two rounds, he is tied for ninth at 1-over. Holsclaw, meanwhile, is tied for 16th at 5-over.
Aside from Holsclaw, two other Owens golfers improved their first round scores as Karit Kitipongpatana (St. Dominic School/Bangkok, Thailand) went from a 79 to a 75, and Bandit Chaisuk (Nong Khai, Thailand) went from an 84 to a 77. Kitipongpatana's scored has him in the top 50 with a 43rd place tie, while Chaisuk is tied for 78th.
Will Mullins (St. Bernadette's/Bristol, United Kingdom) shot a 10-over 82 in today's second round and is tied for 59th at 13-over for the tournament.
As a team, Owens is just one stroke behind fifth place Illinois Central Community College and four strokes behind fourth place Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. Kirkwood Community College out of Iowa is in third place with a 585.
Tyler Junior College's Marco Maldanado, who shot an 8-under 64 yesterday, remains in first place after shooting a 1-over 73 this afternoon. He is five strokes up on South Mountain's Connor Klein.
