Express Lose Home Contests to Nationally-Ranked Teams

- The Express lost two tough games this weekend at home to No. 10 Jefferson College (Mo.) and No. 18 Cincinnati State Community College.

On Sunday, the Express lost 2-1 to Jefferson College in a closely contested matchup.

Jefferson College broke a scoreless game at the 56:15 mark to take a 1-0 lead. Just over a minute later, Sean Kaighin (Clay/Oregon, Ohio) tied it for the Express with a goal at the 57:26 mark on an assist from Novak Vuk Janicic (Elektro Technicka Skola/Belgrade, Serbia).

However, Jefferson scored the game-winning goal at the 71:05 mark for the win.

Jake Olman (Maumee/Maumee, Ohio) started in goal for the Express and saved 10 shots. Jeff Cooperider (Northview/Sylvania, Ohio) also saw time in goal for Owens in the second half, but did not have any saves.

Jefferson College had 13 shots on goal compared to 12 for Owens.

On Saturday, the Express lost a crucial Region XII matchup to Cincinnati State by a score of 3-0.

The match was scoreless at halftime as each team had plenty of chances to score. The match swung in favor of Cincinnati State when the Express had a scoring chance just over 57 minutes into the match. As Owens pushed the ball upfield, a Cincinnati State defender stole the ball and passed the ball to a teammate, who then put one in the net at the 57:40 mark to take a 1-0 lead. From there, Cincinnati State capitalized on the momentum and scored two more goals at the 66:06 and 85:22 marks.

The Express had a chance to vault into a second place tie in the Region XII standings with Cincinnati State had they won Saturday. The match was even in terms of shots on goal as each team had 15.

Olman started in goal for the Express and stopped seven shots.

Following the weekend's action, Owens is now 9-6 overall and 8-5 in Region XII. They are scheduled to travel to Elyria, Ohio on Wednesday to take on Lorain County Community College at 4 p.m.
