Toledo, Ohio---Matt Almester (St. John's Jesuit/Toledo, Ohio) and Austin Combs (Anthony Wayne/Maumee, Ohio) each scored twice to lead the Owens Community College men's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Lake Michigan College today.

Combs, the reigning Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) player of the week, gave Owens a 1-0 lead just 1:25 into the game. Reiss Liggitt (Seminole/Birmingham, England) then struck a laser from straight on at the 12:38 mark to give Owens a 2-0 lead.

Combs followed three minutes later with another goal. He took a forward pass at the 15:33 from Joseph Adby (York College/York, North Yorkshire, England) and chipped a ball over Lake Michigan's goalkeeper, Christian Haack for a 3-0 lead.

With his team up 3-0, Almester decided to join the action with a goal at the 17:30 mark on an assist from Bjion Campbell (Coconut Creek/Margate, Fla.).

Lake Michigan's Jose Perez answered back for his team with a penalty kick goal past Owens goalkeeper Ryan Wicher (Whitmer/Toledo, Ohio) at the 26:00 mark.

Aaron Elledge (Canyon Del Oro/Tucson, Ariz.) answered Perez, however, with a goal at the 33:00 mark on a cross from Samuel Miller (Northview/Sylvania, Ohio).

Owens took their 5-1 lead into the break.

The game's scoring concluded with a goal from Almester just 18 seconds into the second half on another assist from Campbell.

Overall, aside from the two goals apiece from Combs and Almester, Campbell led the team with three assists. Adby, Miller, Almester and Liggitt also each picked up one assist.

Owens is now 2-1 this year, including a 1-1 mark in Region XII play. They will host Muskegon Community College tomorrow at 1 p.m.

Notes

Almester now leads the team in goals scored with five, while Combs has four. Campbell has a team-high four assists, while Combs and Liggitt have three apiece. Almester (12) and Combs (11) are the team's leading scorers early in the season.

Liggitt's goal was his second of the season. Adby's assist was his first of the year to go along with his previous goal. Elledge's goal was the first of his young collegiate career.

Amazingly, Owens has 24 goals and 19 assists in the team's first three games.

The tables were turned, somewhat, by Lake Michigan on Wicher today. It was Wicher who made a crucial penalty kick save in last year's season-opener against Lake Michigan, but Lake Michigan got a tiny measure of revenge today.
