Rochester, N.Y.---Matt Almester (St. John's Jesuit/Toledo, Ohio) scored in the 88th minute, but it wasn't enough as the Owens Community College men's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to No. 20 Monroe Community College on the road today.

The first 36 minutes were scoreless, although Almester had two great shots saved by Monroe's goalkeeper, Noah Plain.

Ienik Spencer then scored back-to-back goals before the end of the half to put Monroe up 2-0. The first goal was assisted by David Antunez, while the second one was unassisted.

Then, at almost the 73rd minute, Sam De St. Croix converted a penalty kick to push the lead to three.

Almester's goal then came at the 87:11 mark. He had a team-high four shots on goal, while Ahmad Jarrar (Hendersonville/Hendersonville, N.C.) was next up with two.

The goal bumped Almester's team-high goal total to 11 this year.

Ryan Wicher (Whitmer/Toledo, Ohio) went the distance in goal for the Express and made four saves.

Owens (8-5-1) will close out its east coast road trip with a 4 p.m. tilt vs Mercyhurst North East Community College tomorrow.
