Miller To Play At Lourdes University Next Year

By Nicholas Huenefeld/Owens Sports Information

Toledo, Ohio---Samuel Miller (Northview/Sylvania, Ohio) will move on to play at Lourdes University after two successful years with the Owens Community College men's soccer program.

A sophomore defender, Miller scored his lone career goal against Lorain County Community College this past year. He also added two assists and served as a team captain. In his two years, he started 26 matches and appeared in 39 while helping Owens to a combined 27-14-2 record.

"Sam is a very quick and athletic defender who can play in a central or wide position," Lourdes head coach Barry Spitzer said via LourdesAthletics.com. "He is an excellent on-on-one defender who reads the game very well. With two years of collegiate play at Owens, he will bring added experience to our squad."

Miller is joining his former Northview High School teammate, Adam Gonia, at Lourdes. Gonia is transferring to Lourdes after two years at Walsh University.

Miller joins Austin Combs (Tiffin University) as one of two players moving on so far from last year's team.

Notes

The fall of 2015 will mark the first year of men's and women's soccer at Lourdes. Miller, who is the first Owens men's soccer player to move on to Lourdes, will join former Owens women's soccer players, Megan Soncrant, Kayla Lehmann, Abby Groll, Kendyl Christian and Erika Brinkman, at Lourdes. Soncrant, Lehmann, Groll and Christian each played the last two years at Owens, while Brinkman played the 2012 and 2013 seasons at Owens before moving on to Purdue-Calumet, where she spent a year before transferring to Lourdes for her senior year.

Lourdes will compete in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) and the NAIA.
