Adby Inks With NAIA National Power, UNOH

By Nicholas Huenefeld/Owens Sports Information

Toledo, Ohio---Joseph Adby, a sophomore defender for the Owens Community College men's soccer team, has signed with the University of Northwestern Ohio (UNOH) to continue his playing career.

This past season, Adby had four goals and two assists en route to Second Team All-Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) honors. Despite not tallying a point as a freshman, he started 21 games and was named to the Region XII All-Tournament team.

UNOH finished 17-5-2 last year and advanced all the way to the NAIA national semifinal before falling to No. 2 University of Texas at Brownsville. Adby, who is from York, North Yorkshire, England, will fit in well with UNOH's mostly international roster.

Adby joins fellow sophomore teammates Austin Combs (Anthony Wayne/Maumee, Ohio) and Samuel Miller (Northview/Sylvania, Ohio) in signing with four-year colleges. Combs signed with NCAA Division II Tiffin University, while Miller signed with NAIA Lourdes University.

In fact, UNOH and Lourdes both compete in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC), so Adby and Miller will compete against each other the next two years.

Notes

The Owens men's soccer program, led by soon to be 18th year head coach Art Johnson, went 12-8-1 last year and advanced to the Region XII quarterfinals. The team was ranked as high as 17th in the nation in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I poll.

Adby is the fourth Owens student-athlete to sign with UNOH over the past two years. He joins Demy Whitaker and Eboni Adams (women's basketball) and Emily Rockman (softball).
