Toledo, Ohio---The Owens Community College men's soccer team suffered a pair of tough overtime losses on the road this weekend to Ancilla (IN) College and Morton (IL) College.

On Friday, Owens held its opponent scoreless through regulation for the third straight match, but an overtime goal by Ancilla's Josh Logan off a deflected free kick at the 95:36 mark gave Owens a 1-0 loss.

Just prior to Ancilla's goal, Josiah McCloud (Monvlova Christian/Toledo, Ohio) received his second yellow card of the match, and Owens was therefore playing a man down when the winning goal was scored.

Kyle Rowan (Perrysburg/Perrysburg, Ohio) played almost the entire match in goal and made nine saves. He received a yellow card in the first half and was replaced by Alexander Renius (Bedford/Temperance, Mich.), who made is season debut by stopping one shot over a few minutes of action.

Trae Green (Blessed Pope John Paul II C.S.S./Scarborough, Ontario, Canada) nearly won it for Owens early in the overtime session, but had his shot bounce off the post.

On Saturday, the duo of Matt Almester (St. John's Jesuit/Rossford, Ohio) and Akeem McCarthy (Cornwall College/Montego Bay, Jamaica) helped Owens comback from a two goal deficit against Morton College before another overtime goal doomed their team.

Morton College took a 1-0 lead into the halftime session before a second goal put them up two at the 52 minute mark.

In the 74th minute, Almester put Owens on the board with a goal off an assist from McCarthy. Then, McCarthy scored off an assist from Almester in the 86th minute to tie the match up.

After a scoreless first overtime, Morton College scored the game-winner with 3:15 left in the second overtime.

Rowan went the distance in goal and made four saves.

Almester's goal was his third this year and he picked up his second assist, while McCarthy's goal was his third and the assist was his first.

Following the weekend, Owens sits at 2-4 overall and 2-2 in Region XII play. They will also take a 1-1 Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) record into Wednesday's 4 p.m. road match against Lakeland Community College at 4 p.m.

Owens returns home Sept. 19 against Lake Michigan at 3 p.m. The match begins a three-game homestand that also includes Ancilla College on Sept. 20 and Schoolcraft College on Sept. 23.
