OT Stings @OwensExpress Men's Soccer In 3-2 Loss To Ancilla

Toledo, Ohio---The Owens Community College men's soccer team came from behind twice in today's match against Ancilla College, but the visitors scored the game-winner in overtime to secure a 3-2 win.

It was the second overtime win for Ancilla against Owens this year after a 1-0 win on Sept. 11.

Ancilla's Yaret Regino put his team up 1-0 at halftime with a goal at the 26:13 mark.

In the second half, Maxwell Ejiogu (Beauchamps/Wickford, Essex, U.K.) headed in a pass from Reiss Liggitt (Seminole/Birmingham, England) to tie the game at the 54:22 mark.

However, Ancilla took the lead back just 45 seconds later when Shamar Wright scored via a free kick by Romario Piggott.

Later, Hector Aguirre Jr. (Rossford/Rossford, Ohio) fought for a ball and lofted the game-tying goal for Owens at the 76:38 mark.

Neither team could score down the stretch before Kevin Mendoza scored off a pass from Lee Nicholson 7:38 into overtime to end the match.

Matt Almester (St. John's Jesuit/Rossford, Ohio) led Owens with three shots of his team's seven shots on goal.

Kyle Rowan (Perrysburg/Perrysburg, Ohio) made two saves in goal for Owens, while Samuel Lopez made five saves for Ancilla.

Owens is now 4-5 overall. They will be back in action on Wednesday at 4 p.m. against Schoolcraft College at home. 

Ancilla improves to 4-1 this year with the win.

Notes

Ejiogu's goal was his first of the season, while Aguirre's goal was his second of the year. Liggitt's assist was his third of the season.
