Muskegon, Mich.---Reiss Liggitt (Seminole/Birmingham, England) and Matt Almester (St. John's Jesuit/Rossford, Ohio) each scored twice as the Owens Community College men's soccer team posted a 5-0 shutout over Muskegon Community College on the road today.

Almester got things started by converting his third penalty kick of the season just 16 minutes into the game.

Liggitt then scored both of his goals before the end of the half. The first came via a pass from Hector Aguirre Jr. (Rossford/Rossford, Ohio) in the 21st minute, and the second came from Jahmall Whittaker (Herbert Morrison Tech/Queens, N.Y.) in the 35th minute.

In the second half, Almester and Hakeem Sadler (Quality Academics/Greter Portmore, Jamaica) each found the back of the net to pad to the lead. Cooper Huslig (Mountain View/Tucson, Ariz.) and Ian Richey (Kalida/Kalida, Ohio) assisted on the goals.

Kyle Rowan (Perrysburg/Perrysburg, Ohio) helped Owens snap a three-game losing streak by making four saves and picking up his third shutout of the season in goal.

Owens is now 5-7 overall and 5-5 in Region XII play. They will travel to Lake Michigan College for a 3 p.m. matchup tomorrow.

Notes

Owens had scored five goals in its previous four games before today's outburst.

Today's win was big as it helped Owens stay close to Muskegon (5-3 Region XII) and just ahead of Jackson (4-4-1 Region XII) in the region standings. Owens has a 1-0 record against each of those teams.

Almester now has 10 goals this year and 28 in his two-year career. Liggitt produced his third and fourth goals of the season in the first half. Sadler's goal was his first of the season.

Richey, Huslig, Whittaker and Aguirre Jr. all got their first assist of the season.
