Owens Men Win Thriller On The Road Over Lake Michigan, 2-0

Benton Harbor, Mich.---Akeem McCarthy (Cornwall College/Montego Bay, Jamaica) scored the game-winner in the 81st minute as the Owens Community College men's soccer team posted a 2-0 shutout over Lake Michigan College on the road today.

In a scoreless game, McCarthy took a pass from Trae Green (Blessed Pope John Paul II C.S.S./Scarborough, Ontario, Canada) and deposited it past Lake Michigan's goalkeeper Clayton Stakley.

Three minutes later, Matt Almester (St. John's Jesuit/Rossford, Ohio) gave Owens all the insurance it needed with a goal via a pass from Hakeem Sadler (Quality Academics/Greater Portmore, Jamaica).

Kyle Rowan (Perrysburg/Perrysburg, Ohio) posted three saves for Owens in his second consecutive and fourth shutout overall of the season.

Owens is now 6-7 overall. After completing a three-game road trip, the team returns home for five straight beginning this Wednesday against Cuyahoga Community College at 4 p.m.

Notes

Almester inched closer to 30 career goals with the 29th of his career today. He has 11 this year, and he has scored in eight of the team's 13 games.

McCarthy's goal was his fourth of the season.
