Liggitt's OT Winner Propels Owens Past Jackson 2-1, Winning Streak Now At Four

Toledo, Ohio---Reiss Liggitt (Seminole/Birmingham, England) scored just under three minutes in overtime to give the Owens Community College men's soccer team a 2-1 win over Jackson College at home today.

Matt Almester (St. John's Jesuit/Rossford, Ohio), who had scored in the first half to give Owens a 1-0 lead at halftime, was fouled just outside the box in the 92nd minute. Liggitt then converted the free kick to give Owens its fourth straight win.

Both goals were unassisted, while Owens has outscored its opponents 13-2 during its four game winning streak. Furthermore, Owens picked up its first overtime win of the season today. They were previously 0-3 coming into today.

In the second half, Lucas Silva scored Jackson's lone goal by depositing a rebound off a shot via a direct kick from Madafing Conde.

Kyle Rowan (Perrysburg/Perrysburg, Ohio) made five saves in goal for Owens. Matthew Beck saved nine shots for Jackson.

With the win, Owens is now 8-7 overall this year. They will host Lakeland Community College at 4 p.m. on Wednesday. The match will mark the end of Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) play.

Notes

Almester's goal was the 30th of his career. He leads the team with 12 this year. Liggitt's goal was his fifth of the season and ninth of his career.
