Almester's Game-Winner in Double OT Gives Owens Men Sixth Straight Victory

Toledo, Ohio---Matt Almester (St. John's Jesuit/Rossford, Ohio) scored the game-winning goal to give the Owens Community College men's soccer team a 1-0 win over Monroe (N.Y.) Community College in double overtime today.

Almester took a pass from Michael Dingwall (Riverdale/Lehigh Acres, Fla.) at the 101:09 mark and deposited the shot over the head of Monroe's goalkeeper, Mark Kamstra.

Just prior to his game-winner, Almester missed wide right on a shot that could have won it. He finished the game with three total shots (two on goal).

Julian McDonald also produced three shots (two on goal) to lead Monroe, who fell to 7-5-1 overall this year with the loss.

Kyle Rowan (Perrysburg/Perrysburg, Ohio) made seven saves in goal for Owens, while Kamstra made five.

Owens is now 10-7 overall, and they have won six straight. During that stretch, they have four shutouts, are outscoring opponents 20-2 and have won two overtime games. Prior that that, the team was 4-7 overall, 0-3 in overtime and getting outscored 21-20.

Owens will host Mercyhurst North East Community College at 1 p.m. tomorrow. They have three matches remaining before postseason play begins.

Notes

It was Almester's 16th goal of this season and the 34th of his career. He now owns two of the top 10 single season goal scoring marks in program history, and he passed Fabio Cardoso (33) for fifth place on the career goals scored list. Next up is Rodcliff Hall at 35.

Dingwall's assist was his third of the season.
