Almester, Rowan Earn Conference Honors

Toledo, Ohio---Matt Almester (St. John's Jesuit/Rossford, Ohio) and Kyle Rowan (Perrysburg/Perrysburg, Ohio) have been voted the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) offensive and defensive player of the week recipients in men's soccer.

Almester, a sophomore forward, scored two hat tricks over three games while totaling seven goals and one assist. He led his team to a 6-0 win over OCCAC foe Lakeland Community College last Wednesday with three goals and one assist. On Saturday, he scored the game-winning goal in double overtime to give Owens a 1-0 win over Monroe Community College. He closed his week with three goals in an 11-1 win over Mercyhurst North East on Sunday.

Almester has 19 goals and four assists this year.

Rowan, meanwhile, did not allow a goal over 213 minutes of play last week. The freshman goalkeeper played the first 55 minutes of a 6-0 win over Lakeland, all 101:29 of a 1-0 win in double overtime over Monroe Community College and the first 57:06 of an 11-1 win over Mercyhurst North East.

Rowan has made 83 saves this year over 18 games for Owens, which is now 11-7 overall this year. They have won a program record tying seven straight entering Wednesday's road match against No. 10 Schoolcraft College.

This is the second award of the season for Rowan.
