Toledo, Ohio---Akeem McCarthy (Cornwall College/Montego Bay, Jamaica) scored twice in the second half to lead the Owens Community College men's soccer team to a 2-0 win over Muskegon Community College at home today.

With the win, Owens finishes the regular season at 12-7-1 overall and 10-5-1 in Region XII play. They open postseason play next Wednesday at 4 p.m. against Jackson College at home in a Region XII quarterfinal.

McCarthy's goals came in the 61st and 69th minutes to break open what was a scoreless game at halftime. The assists came from Nathan Francis (Lake/Walbridge, Ohio) and Trae Green (Blessed Pope John Paul II C.S.S./Scarborough, Ontario, Canada).

Kyle Rowan (Perrysburg/Perrysburg, Ohio) picked up another shutout in goal for Owens with two saves. He hasn't allowed a goal in the past 436:50.

McCarthy's goals were his ninth and 10th of the season, while Francis and Green picked up their first and sixth assists, respectively, of the season.

Notes

Owens has only given up three goals over its past nine games. Two of those games went to double overtime, while another went to overtime. The team is 8-0-1 during the stretch, as well.

Should Owens defeat Jackson next Wednesday, they would advance to the Region XII semifinals on Oct. 31 against Ancilla College. The semifinals and finals will be hosted by Lakeland Community College with the winner of the tournament advancing to the district championship against the Region XII winner.
