Owens Trio Earn Region XII Men's Soccer Honors

Toledo, Ohio---The Owens Community College men's soccer team advanced to the Region XII championship game this past weekend and came within a couple penalty kicks of advancing to the district championship. 

Today, the team was rewarded for their success this season as three players were named to the All-Region XII men's soccer team.

Matt Almester (St. John's Jesuit/Toledo, Ohio), a sophomore forward, was the top honoree as he was named First Team All-Region XII after producing 23 goals and four assists. His goal total was the second highest in Region XII and the 11th highest at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I level. His point total was also good for second in the region and was 15th highest in the nation. This season, he started 21 of 23 games played.

In his two-year career, Almester had 41 goals and eight assists to finish fourth in career goals and fourth in career points in program history.

Trae Green (Blessed Pope John Paul II C.S.S./Scarborough, Ontario, Canada), a sophomore midfielder, was named Second Team All-Region XII. He finished second on the team in assists with seven while adding two goals. He finished his two-year career with six goals and 10 assists.

Maxwell Ejiogu (Beauchamps/Wickford, Essex, U.K.), a sophomore midfielder who transferred to Owens after his freshman year, totaled one goal and one assist this year. He helped solidify a defense that produced eight shutouts and 17 games of one goal or less.

Owens finished the 2015 season 14-7-2 overall and 4-2 in Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) play, which earned them a second place finish. They also finished as the runner-up in the Region XII tournament.
